After spending quite some time fawning over the Guerlain Perles du Dragon Meteorites, I think it’s about time to showcase another gem from their latest Liu collection for Holiday 2012. Meet Lou-Ling, people. Guerlain has been feeling the Oriental love this season and have dressed the collection with a generous dose of golds and reds.
Truth be told, when the Guerlain Rouge Automatique range of lipsticks first came out, I wasn’t quite impressed with them. I thought the packaging was rather gimmicky and lacked the class that Guerlain is usually associated with. Also, I was a little afraid that the sliding mechanism would fail me one day and that my beautiful lipstick would be all smooshed up.
Thankfully, the constant sliding up and down has not given me any problems yet but I do tend to use it with slight trepidation that the mechanism may just go kaput. The sleek gold case feels solid enough but is relatively lightweight.
The beauty about Lou-Ling obviously lies in its colour. It is a gorgeous plummy-red blend with fine shimmery particles of gold and pink. It is seriously BEAUTIFUL. I was so completely sold on the shade that for a moment, I forgot that it came in a dinky slippy-slidy casing.
The lipstick glides on very smoothly and I didn’t experience any dragging. It is quite an opaque shade too and the formula seems moisturising enough. But those with very dry lips may want to apply a light layer of lipbalm beforehand. It doesn’t feel gritty although it contains shimmer. Overall, the formula is very impressive and if it is the same in all Rouge Automatique lipsticks, I can see why they are so popular.
The lipstick is surprisingly long-lasting. After five hours, which included drinking and eating, the lipstick left a slight berry stain with bits of shimmer on. Again, if the other Rouge Automatique behave the same, I may be a new fan.
I think you can wear Lou-Ling both day and night. It is not an extremely bold colour, so it works as a daily work lipstick. It is also absolutely beautiful during the night and if you’re attending many parties, it may last you throughout the festivities with minimal re-application.
I cannot recommend Lou-Ling enough and I love the lightweight, smooth formula. It is my first Rouge Automatique and I can’t be happier. Sadly though, it is limited edition as with all the other offerings in the Liu collection. If you’re looking for a slightly sparkly plummy pink or berry shade, Lou-Ling may be a winner for you too.
Each Rouge Automatique retails at RM110 and can be found at Guerlain. But do hurry if you intent to get Lou-Ling for yourself as it is limited edition and may be sold out soon.
Did you pick up Lou-Ling this season and have you tried any Rouge Automatique lipsticks before? What is your favourite? Do share as I’m looking for recommendations.
