Clarins Double Serum – Is It Twice as Good?

You know, I am not getting any younger. It’s a sad fact and something that I cannot get away from. I don’t really use many anti-ageing products as most of my skincare is geared towards hydration more than anything else. And I honestly believe the best anti-ageing product one can have is a good sunscreen.

So when Clarins invited me to the launch of their reformulated, more advanced Double Serum, I was a little curious. I frequent Clarins a lot and love their moisturisers but I must admit that I tend to ignore their anti-ageing range. The Double Serum is not a new product and has been around for more than two decades. But Clarins has always been innovating and improving their products, hence the “new” Double Serum.

The full name of the product is actually Double Serum (Hydric + Lipidic System) Complete Age Control Concentrate. According to Clarins, the five vital functions at the heart of skin’s youthful beauty lies in hydration, nutrition, oxygenation, protection and regeneration. These functions tend to slow down due to age, stress and environmental factors, which causes the skin to show visible signs of ageing.

The clever people at Clarins have identified 20 powerful plant extracts to help us combat ageing and have bottled the formula in a twin pump canister. This is to preserve the qualities of liposoluble and hydrosoluble ingredients (blurb from Clarins). The plant extracts will help stimulate the five skin functions and help retain skin’s beauty.

What does this mean for me (and you) though? Well, I’ve been using the Double Serum since late September and started off my using it day and night. After a couple of weeks, I reduced the usage to night time only because I prefered to use other serums during the day. Within a few uses, my skin has shown some improvement and it feels smoother and softer. I’m not sure if it helps “preserve my youth” because I don’t have many wrinkles to begin with, but I think it does plump up my skin and make it appear more radiant in the mornings.

The pump canister is supposed to deliver the optimum blend of both the oil and water formula. I usually use two to three pumps, rub my palms together and lightly spread and pat onto my face and neck. It takes about 2 minutes to sink in but I can’t be bothered waiting before applying a moisturiser over. Although my skin feels a little sticky upon immediate application, it does go away when all the products on my face have been absorbed. There is a slight scent but it smells quite fresh and light, unlike some of the other more heavily perfumed Clarins products. So it doesn’t bother me much.

So far, I have been rather pleased with the Double Serum and will continue using until the bottle runs out. I would most likely repurchase and at the rate Clarins is going, they would probably reinvent and repackage the Double Serum in another three or four years.

Each bottle of the Clarins Double Serum retails at RM280 for a 30ml bottle and is available at all local Clarins counters and boutiques.

Have you tried the Double Serum yet and do you like it? Do you use any anti-ageing treatments at the moment? I’m always open to ideas and would love to find out what you use.

Oh thanks for the review Lyn! None of us is getting any younger mind you. LOL! By the way, do you use this serum together with any other serums? I’ve been interested in this, but waiting for reviews. I read somewhere that you’re only supposed to use this on its own without mixing with other serums but I usually have my own concoction :-P

Hi Lily, I’ve never used the Double Serum mixed and blended with another serum since it’s sort of bi-phase already. But I have added another serum after applying it. So far, I have not suffered any adverse effects. I’m really lazy and most of the time, I’m a one-serum type of person ;-) But I do have loads of serums to go through and am trying my best to use them up.
