For as long as I can remember, I have been suffering from dry and chapped lips, which I’m sure is a common malady for most of us. Over the years, I have tried many different lip balms and treatments, some expensive and some affordable. Most of them didn’t work and ended up being a complete waste of money because I had to throw them out.
Just a couple of weeks ago, I was casually browsing through a drugstore and decided to pick up the Vaseline Lip Essence Advanced (Original Formula) and Lip Essence Cherry (Flavoured). I’m not really sure what prompted me to choose Vaseline as it has been a long time since I last used Vaseline (the one in a tub) on my lips but I vaguely recalled it was quite effective.
Well, it was a good thing I did because it healed my chapped lips, which can sometimes crack and peel, in less than 2 days. I had only been using the Lip Essence Advanced at night and the Cherry flavoured version once in the morning. By day 2, I woke up with soft, smooth and supple lips and was really impressed.
Throughout the day, I would normally switch between the Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment or the Chanel Lipbalm and only if I remember to apply. Coupled with the Vaseline Lip Essences at night or in the mornings, my lips have been problem-free the past two weeks. These days, I’ll take the Cherry flavoured version along with me so I can reapply it when my lips feel particularly parched. It has a slippery consistency and you’d need to allow it to sink in before applying lipstick on top.
The Vaseline Lip Essence dispenses in a clear, waxy layer of petroleum jelly. I’d squeeze out some product onto my finger and liberally apply all over my lips. I always prefer products that come in tubes as opposed to jars or tubs, as it is a lot more hygienic. It barely has a scent, even the Cherry flavoured one and I am really grateful that they both don’t interfere with my olfactory senses.
There are some Korean words printed on the back and I believe it’s Made in Korea. I think the Vaseline we used to get locally came from Thailand before? Anyway, it’s very likely that the Vaseline Lip Essence in this packaging is only made available in certain Asian countries. I’m guessing the other variations of Vaseline ought to work the same.
I am really surprised that Vaseline actually works better than Lanolips or Lucas Paw Paw on me. It just goes to show that your mileage may vary and that cheap is really good sometimes You can find Vaseline Lip Essence at most local drugstores (pharmacies) for RM9.90. I got mine from Caring Pharmacy for only RM8.90 but I am not sure if that is their permanent pricing.
